How Much Money Do You Need for a Belgium Schengen Visa from Thailand? (2026)

How much money do you need for a Belgium visa from Thailand?

Belgium asks for at least €45 per day if you stay with family or friends, and €95 per day if you stay in a hotel (on top of the hotel). You prove it with payslips and bank statements showing at least the last 3 months. If your partner or family in Belgium pays, they sign an Annex 3bis instead, with a net income of at least €2,217.47 per month.

Spoyzy in Bangkok checks your financial documents and prepares the complete visa file.

Money is one of the most common reasons for questions in Thai–Belgian couples’ groups: how much, whose money, and how to show it. Here are the official amounts, real examples and what works best in practice.

In short

  • Staying with a host: at least €45 per day
  • Staying in a hotel: at least €95 per day, plus the hotel itself
  • Proof: payslips and bank statements with at least 3 months of movements; a credit card with its statement can also count
  • Host pays? They sign an Annex 3bis at their commune (income from €2,217.47 net per month)
  • Fixed costs on top: visa fee €90, TLScontact service fee, travel insurance of at least €30,000
  • Even when the host pays, include your own income and bank statements

1. The official daily amounts

With family, a partner or friends€45dofi.ibz.be (EU Visa Code Handbook, Annex 18)
In a hotel€95, on top of the hotel costsdofi.ibz.be; Belgian Embassy Bangkok

The embassy can ask for more when the trip justifies it, for example an expensive tour or medical treatment.

2. Examples

TripCalculationMinimum to show
14 days with your partner14 × €45€630
30 days with family30 × €45€1,350
60 days with your partner60 × €45€2,700
10 days in hotels10 × €95, plus the hotels€950 + hotel bookings

These are minimums for the money test only. Your income and savings also show that you have a life to return to in Thailand, so a regular salary over several months counts more than one large amount.

3. Who should pay: you, your partner, or both?

OptionWhat you showGood to know
You payYour payslips and bank statements (3 months or more), employer letterStrongest when you have a regular income in Thailand
Your partner paysAnnex 3bis + your partner’s ID and income proof, and still your own bank statementsThe official way for Belgium; the partner needs €2,217.47 net per month
BothYour own funds + Annex 3bisOften the best file for couples: money is covered and your ties to Thailand are visible

A partner’s bank statement or a money transfer alone is not the official guarantee for Belgium. If your partner pays the stay, use the Annex 3bis. Full guide: Annex 3bis for a Thai visitor.

4. What the embassy wants to see in your bank statements

  • Recent statements with movements over at least the last 3 months, in your own name
  • Your salary or business income arriving regularly
  • A balance that matches your trip and your daily life
  • Payslips or an employer letter that match the amounts on the statement

In our experience, a large deposit just before applying raises questions. If money came from a sale, a gift or savings, add a short explanation and a document.

5. Fixed costs on top of the daily amount

CostAmount
Visa fee, adult€90, not refunded if refused
Visa fee, child 6–12€45; free under 6
TLScontact service feeCharged by TLScontact Bangkok (check the current amount on its website)
Travel medical insuranceCover of at least €30,000, all Schengen countries, all travel dates
FlightA reservation is enough for the file; buy the ticket after the visa

6. If you have no regular income

Students, homemakers and people between jobs can still apply. Your host can sign an Annex 3bis, and you show other ties to Thailand: studies, children or parents you care for, property, a business, or a partner’s income in Thailand. Explain your situation honestly in a short cover letter.

7. Common mistakes

  • Showing only one month of bank statements
  • A large cash deposit just before applying, without explanation
  • Counting on the partner’s bank statement without an Annex 3bis
  • Annex 3bis but no own bank statements at all
  • Hotel stay with less than €95 per day on top of the hotel
  • Statements in someone else’s name without a link to you
  • Insurance under €30,000 or not covering all travel dates
  • Buying a non-refundable flight before the visa

8. How Spoyzy helps

  • Check of your bank statements, payslips and employer letter
  • Check of your partner’s Annex 3bis and income documents
  • A cover letter that explains your money and ties clearly
  • Translation of Thai documents into English
  • The complete file and TLScontact appointment

Frequently asked questions

How much money do I need per day for Belgium?

At least €45 per day when you stay with family or friends, and €95 per day in a hotel, on top of the hotel costs.

How many months of bank statements do I need?

Statements showing movements over at least the last 3 months, with payslips or another proof of regular income.

Can my Belgian boyfriend or girlfriend pay for my trip?

Yes. The official way is the Annex 3bis, signed at their commune. They need a net income of at least €2,217.47 per month (since 1 September 2026).

If my partner signs an Annex 3bis, do I still need my own bank statements?

Yes. The embassy checklist still asks for your own income and bank details, and they help show that you will return to Thailand.

Is a money transfer from my partner enough?

No. A transfer is not the official guarantee for Belgium. If your partner pays the stay, they should sign the Annex 3bis.

Can I put money in my account just before applying?

You can, but a sudden large deposit without explanation raises questions. Regular income over several months is stronger.

Can I apply without a job?

Yes. A host can sign the Annex 3bis, and you show other ties to Thailand such as studies, family you care for, property or a business.

Does the visa fee count in the money I must show?

No. The €45 or €95 per day is for your stay in Belgium. The visa fee, service fee, insurance and flight come on top.

Is the visa fee refunded if the visa is refused?

No. The visa fee is not refunded.

Can the embassy ask for more money?

Yes, when the purpose justifies it, for example a luxury trip or medical treatment.
