Belgian Marriage and Divorce Certificates for Use in Thailand

Did you marry or divorce in Belgium and now need to update your marital status in Thailand? A Belgian marriage or divorce certificate can only be used at a Thai district office after it has been legalised in Belgium, translated into Thai and certified in Bangkok.

I take care of the whole chain for you: a trusted contact in Belgium handles the Belgian legalisation, and I do the Thai part in Bangkok. You receive the finished documents by post, ready to bring to your district office.

Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs receipt for document legalisation

Which documents?

Most common

  • Belgian marriage certificate – to register a marriage made in Belgium in Thailand (for example the Kor Ror 22)
  • Belgian divorce certificate – to record a divorce made in Belgium in Thailand

Also possible

  • Other Belgian civil status documents needed by a Thai authority – ask me on WhatsApp

How the process works

  1. Belgian document: a recent copy of your marriage or divorce certificate from the Belgian municipality.
  2. Legalisation in Belgium: my contact in Belgium has the document legalised at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FPS Foreign Affairs) and then at the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels.
  3. Translation into Thai in Bangkok.
  4. Certification at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Department of Consular Affairs) in Bangkok.
  5. Delivery: I send the finished documents to you by Thailand Post.
  6. District office: you bring the documents to your district office (khet or amphoe) to update your marital status.

Why this order matters

Thai district offices only accept a foreign document that has been legalised in the country where it was issued, then translated into Thai and certified by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If one step is missing, the district office will refuse the file – so I check every document before it travels.

What you need to do

  • Tell me which document you need and for what (marriage or divorce, which district office).
  • Request the copy of your certificate, or let me tell you how to get it.
  • When the documents arrive by post, take them to your district office yourself – I explain exactly what to bring.

Why work with me

  • Both countries covered: Belgian legalisation through my contact in Belgium, Thai translation and certification by me in Bangkok.
  • Four languages: Thai, English, French and Dutch – easy for both partners.
  • No travel needed: you do not need to go to Brussels or to the Ministry in Bangkok.
  • Rated 5.0 on Google by 50+ clients.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my Belgian marriage certificate directly in Thailand?

No. It must first be legalised in Belgium (FPS Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels), then translated into Thai and certified by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only then will a Thai district office accept it.

I divorced in Belgium – do I need to register it in Thailand?

If you were married in Thailand or your marriage is recorded in Thai records, your Thai records still show you as married until the divorce is registered. The Belgian divorce certificate goes through the same legalisation, translation and certification before you file it at the district office.

Do I have to go to the district office myself?

Yes. I prepare and send you the complete set of documents, and you file them at your district office (khet or amphoe). I explain what to bring.

Do I need to travel to Belgium or to Bangkok?

No. My contact in Belgium handles the Belgian legalisation, I handle the Thai part in Bangkok, and the finished documents are sent to you by post.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the documents and the steps needed. Send me a message on WhatsApp for a personal quote.

What is the Kor Ror 22?

The Kor Ror 22 is the Thai registration of family status for a marriage made abroad. See my Kor Ror 22 guide (Thai).

Tell me which Belgian document you need to use in Thailand – I will explain the steps, the price and the timing.
