Marriage Registration in Bangkok for Foreigners: Documents, Interpreter and Witnesses

I’m Poy, and I help couples get legally married in Bangkok, from the first embassy appointment to the day you sign at the district office. I prepare and translate your documents, have them certified at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and on your wedding day I arrange the interpreter and witnesses, so the registration is done in one day.

I work in Thai, English, French and Dutch, so both of you understand every step. Same-sex couples are welcome.

How marriage registration in Bangkok works

  1. The embassy certificate. The foreign partner needs a certificate from their embassy in Bangkok confirming they are free to marry (for Belgians the CNEM, for the French the CCAM). I book the appointment, give you the exact list and come with you to the embassy.
  2. Translation and certification. The certificate is translated into Thai and certified at the Department of Consular Affairs (Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Translation and certification fees are included in my service.
  3. Registration at the district office in Bangkok. You sign at the district office (Khet) with an interpreter and two witnesses, which I arrange. The registration is done in one day.
  4. After the wedding. Your marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3) must be certified, translated and legalised to be recognised in your country. I can take care of this too.

Good to know

  • Only registration counts: a ceremony at a temple or a wedding party is not a legal marriage. Only registration at a district office is.
  • Age: both partners must be at least 18 (parental consent is needed under 20).
  • Same-sex marriage: legal in Thailand since January 2025, and same-sex couples are welcome.
  • Timing: it depends on your embassy and on the district office’s appointment availability. For Belgians, the embassy certificate is normally ready within a few working days.
  • Embassy appointment: some embassies, such as Belgium and France, ask both partners to come.
  • Where: I work with district offices in Bangkok.

Frequently asked questions

Is a marriage in Thailand valid in my country?

Yes, if it is registered at a Thai district office and meets the conditions of your national law. The marriage certificate must then be legalised, translated and registered in your country.

Do we both need to be in Bangkok?

Yes for the registration: both partners sign in person at the district office. Some embassies, such as Belgium and France, also ask both partners to come to the embassy appointment.

Can same-sex couples marry in Thailand?

Yes. Since January 2025 Thai law allows same-sex marriage, and same-sex couples are welcome.

Do you work outside Bangkok?

My district office service is for Bangkok only.

How long does it take?

It depends on your embassy and on the district office’s appointment availability. I give you a timeline after checking your nationality and documents.

What happens after the wedding?

The Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3 are certified at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, translated and legalised by your embassy, then registered in your country. I can take care of this for you.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your nationality and the service you choose. Send me a message on WhatsApp for a personal quote.

Tell me your nationality and your plans on WhatsApp: I’ll send you the steps and documents for your case.
